Amazon SageMaker Added Custom Tags for Projects
This feature lets you apply custom tags automatically to all resources created through your SageMaker projects.
Welcome back to this new edition of the What’s New Cloud Newsletter, where I share my insights on topics covering AI/ML, Terraform automation, and the latest AWS releases.
Amazon Web Services (AWS) has added a new capability to Amazon SageMaker Unified Studio you can now create and enforce custom tags for project resources.
What’s New
This feature lets you apply custom tags automatically to all resources created through your SageMaker projects.
If you’re managing large-scale environments, this means stronger consistency and cleaner governance across your organization.
Admins can define project profiles with preset tag configurations, either fixed key-value pairs or default values that can be customized during project creation. Every resource launched from that project inherits those tags automatically.
Why This Matters
This update brings:
Better alignment with Service Control Policies (SCPs)
Improved cost tracking across multiple accounts
Simplified compliance through enforced tag standards
By automating tag management, SageMaker reduces manual errors and helps teams maintain clearer visibility into their resources and spending.
My Take
This is a smart move toward automated tag governance in AWS.
It’s great for teams that need:
Reliable cost visibility
Cleaner resource management
Stronger compliance across environments
